Fundamentalism is a very natural human point of view that looks to past outcomes and predicts future outcomes. Taking the wisdom of the past and impose it on the present and future as a fixed point of view ignoring the new realities and awarenesses. Reading text as though they only have one meaning and one point of view and accepting that the written word is not a map but the terrain. Fundamentalist usually think that the text represents their own point of view ignoring everything that is not encompassed. Could you imagine that in science we fundamentally only accepted Newtonian physics and ignored quantum physics, where would we be. The most important awareness is that what we don’t know is vastly more greater that what we do know. We are floating in a sea of the unknown creating our reality out of fragments of data information and cultural rules, predicting what was is and will be. How we exist is a true miracle based on what we think we know. Fundamentalism is embedded in our language, it is considered required for understanding. Language is a filter for reality that creates an approximation of what is. There is this notion that if we weren’t all language fundamentalist we couldn’t understand each other and society would fall apart because of lack of shared values. The Academie Francaise is a body of immortals that keeps the French language pure and uniform and also more and more irrelevant. We know and yet we don’t live by the concept that the fundamental nature of reality isn’t fixed and is mostly unknown. There is a predictability that misleads us to believe that things are consistently always the same and reliable
